Encouragement Found for a Veteran at Conner Middle School

Conner Middle School

Those who know me, know that I have deep concerns about the future of our country, given the current direction we are taking.

Today brought a ray of hope through an unlikely source, a group of sixth and eighth graders at Conner Middle School located in Hebron Kentucky.

What I witnessed today was a thoughtful, intentional, and meaningful tribute to not only veterans but to many of the rights we are guaranteed in the First Amendment of the Constitution of the United States.  Rights, it seems, that have been forgotten by too many.

Under the direction of Mr. David Stigall and aided by scores of folks I witnessed a eighth grade band, a jazz band, a strings orchestra, and a chorale group doing some of the highest quality music I have ever heard at a public school.  The music was well selected and well executed.

I then sat engrossed in the descriptions of how each of the five armed services came into being.  Then was touched as students read mind and heart moving poems, driving home the idea that our veteran’s have passed the torch of liberty to us.  They sacrificed; let us not despise them by dropping that torch.

Thank you Conner Middle School for moving this 24 year Air Force veteran, sitting among dozens of other veterans.  Your program and ovation were deeply gratifying and encouraging.
